The medical education unit at the college of medicine Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University is an excellence unit in medical education that supports medical/health professions education in the college and the university and acts as a consultancy unit in the region in the field of innovation in medical education.
The medical education unit at the college of medicine Prince Sattam University supports the college in delivering innovative curricula to undergraduate and postgraduate students that enable them to meet the needs of the community and the workplace and compete at the National, Regional and International levels. The unit also supports faculty members in fulfilling and developing their competencies as medical educators. The unit also conducts state of the art research in medical education that leads to continuous improvement of curricula and implementation of evidence-based innovations, and supports students during their learning trajectory.
To fulfill our mission and support our vision, the medical education seeks to:
- Coordinate implementation of the undergraduate medical program and guarantee its maintenance, evaluation, and renewal.
- Conduct comprehensive faculty development activities based on needs assessment.
- Develop collaborations and partnerships to sustain the implementation of an up to date undergraduate medical curriculum that is conforming to quality standards.
- Conduct state of the art researches as to contribute to the tray of evidence and innovation in medical/health professions education.
- Establish a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in medical education in the college.
Functions of the Medical Education Unit
- Performing periodic program evaluation of the curriculum.
- Developing guidelines/manuals for different types of teaching and learning activities in the college to help faculty members implement those teaching practices effectively.
- Conducting faculty development activities; conferences, workshops, seminars, webinars, etc., to train the faculty members on the different roles of the medical faculty members.
- Conducting interactive activities for students, such as workshops and seminars, to familiarize them with the teaching and learning methods in the curriculum and help them to learn effectively.
- Monitoring of the different teaching and learning activities in the curriculum.
- Planning, in collaboration with the curriculum committee, for periodic curriculum reform.
- Planning, in collaboration with the e-learning unit, for using technology in curriculum management and implementation.
- Collaborate in the field of medical education with other medical education bodies (departments and units) on the national, regional and international levels.
- Scholarship in the field of medical education.
