The assessment and evaluation unit at the college of medicine, Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University is a pioneer unit in innovation in assessment and acts as a consultancy unit in the field of assessment in the university and the region; thus spreading the culture of innovation and training medical educators on delivering effective student assessments.
Mission:
The mission of the assessment unit at the college of medicine at Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University is to guarantee the conduction of student assessments in the college that are effective, efficient, and innovative, thus enabling its graduates to compete at different levels and satisfy the needs of the workplace.
Goals:
To fulfill our mission and support our vision, the assessment and evaluation unit seeks to:
- Continuously improve the quality of different assessment formats in the college and emphasize on formative assessment, as an important approach to assessment in the current time.
- Develop a comprehensive item bank for the college for different assessment formats (written, practical and clinical), and use recent technologies to operationalize the bank and make best use of it.
- Provide training for staff members on the different assessment methods and on conducting assessments conforming to quality standards, and spread the culture of innovation in students’ assessment among staff members.
- Implement e-assessment and integrate technology in the assessment system in the college in order to enhance the quality and efficiency of student assessment.
Functions:
- Perform quality control of written, practical and clinical exams in the college at the different phases of student assessment; pre-administration, and post-administration.
- Develop regulations/policies of all assessments in the college, based on the curriculum guidelines and documents, as far as the quality of assessment is concerned.
- Develop guidelines/manuals for different types of student assessment in the college to help faculty members implement effective assessments.
- Conduct faculty development activities; workshops, seminars, webinars, etc., to train the faculty members on the development and management assessment.
- Collaborate with the different departments of the college to build an item bank for all types of assessments.
- Supervise the work of exam committees/student assessors in the different departments of the college.
- Plan for using technology enhanced assessments (TEAs) in the college.
- Collaborate in the field of assessment with other assessment bodies on the national, regional and international levels.
